For the first time in the northeast, electric buses will ply in the region as the Assam State Transport Commission rolls out the first electric bus service today in Guwahati.
The route of the bus service is from Paltan Bazaar to Kamakhya. The bus to be used will be zero-emission electric bus which can travel a total of 150 km on a single charge. At designated charging stations, alternate power (AC) sources could be used for charging.
Interestingly, the rollout in Assam happens to be just on the eve of completion of one year of the unveiling of the first made-in-India electric bus in India by Ashok Leyland promoted as, “created specifically for Indian roads as well as its passenger conditions.”
The bus will be formally launched by Transport Minister of the state, Chandramohan Patowary.
