As India Celebrates 71st Independence Day, these pictures from flood hit Assam exemplify love for the Tricolor - Neil M. Goswami and Soumya Roy Choudhury

At a time when the flood situation in Assam which continues to become critical and spread to more areas, people from the flood hit areas celebrate the Nations 71st Independence Day by hoisting the flag almost submerged. 

These images stand as a reminder of the fact that even through testing times these citizens are doing their part of the nationwide celebrations.

These pictures reflect the hope with which the Tricolor is being hoisted in these areas where floods have left people homeless affecting a total population of around 31,59,029 in 25 districts. The cry for help is evident amongst the people yet their unflinching efforts to come out and celebrate cannot be undermined. The hoisting of the flag at these places and others carry with it a hope of a better tomorrow for all these victims, a hope of surviving against this turmoil.
