The Assam Assembly has been called today on July 12 for the start of the Budget Session. This will be the first Budget in Assam that will be tabled by a female finance minister, Ajanta Neog.
This session also marks Sivsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi’s first days in the Assembly. The activist turned MLA who has recently been released after spending 19 months in jail had to be schooled on the Rules of Procedure of the house.
The question hour was going on and questions were being directed towards Chenga MLA Ashraful Hussain. During this, Akhil Gogoi stood up to ask a question that was referred to as Sivsagar initially.
On this, the Speaker Dr. Biswajit Daimary had to correct him. The house erupted in laughter and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister Pijush Hazarika were seen laughing too. However, Gogoi later did ask his question concerning the electrification issue of Chenga constituency inhabitants.
In addition, it must be mentioned that the entire opposition on Monday staged a walkout of the Budget Session of the Assam assembly on the first day after the Speaker refused to allow discussion on the issue of price rise of fuel and other essential commodities. The Congress, AIUDF, and CPI(M) brought three adjournment motions to discuss the issue of rising prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and other essential items, but Speaker Biswajit Daimary did not accept any of those.
