Barpeta: In yet another scene involving drugs, the West Guwahati Police Department held two people allegedly named as Retilla Marak of William Nagar village of Meghalaya and Abdul who’s said to be from Barpeta.
About the incident:
Both of the convicts were arrested from a Dhaba in Milan Nagar after that the police recovered an amount of around 500gm of suspected Heroin from their possession.

The news was officially shared by the Guwahati Police through their Twitter handle where they tweeted, “Another big haul in the #WarOnDrugs A WGPD team from Azara PS arrested a lady named Retilla Marak of William Nagar, Meghalaya & one Abdul Matleb of Barpeta at a Dhaba in Milan Nagar today. Half a kg of heroin was seized from their possession.”
With the rate of rise in drug smuggling in the state, the Assam Government is expected to take strict actions in regards of the same.
As per the sources, Assam being a transit route for drugs pumped in through the Indo-Myanmar border, has nearly 3 lakh drug users. As many as 500 people was arrested in the month of May for being allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
Those intoxicants included heroin, cannabis, syrup and other psychotropic substances. However, the Assam Police intensified the “war on drugs” after the new government was formed on May 10.
