India reported 1,41,986 new COVID-19 cases, up more than 21% from the previous day’s total. The daily positive rate in the country is 9.28 percent, with 4,72,169 active cases.
The number of daily Covid cases in Delhi increased by 15% on Friday, with 17,335 new instances discovered in only 24 hours.
New limitations introduced
As the increase continues, several Covid limitations have been enforced in the national capital. A weekend curfew has also been imposed, lasting from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. During these hours, only essential services will be permitted.
Omicron is producing unprecedented numbers of cases around the world, and while though it produces the less severe Covid-19, researchers worry that this wave could overwhelm health-care systems.
Infection spread rate raises concern in India
According to an AFP tally, Omicron infections are breaking infection records six weeks after it was first detected in southern Africa, with an average new daily case count of nearly two million this week.
According to the World Health Organization, the spread of Omicron was caused by a number of causes, including the make-up of the Covid-19 variety and increased social mixing.
