Meghalaya Engineering College construction work to be finished by March 2022

The much-anticipated Meghalaya Engineering College is expected to be finished by March of next year.

The present polytechnic, which is located in Mawlai, is being renovated to meet the criteria of a full-fledged engineering institution.

This project has received a total funding of Rs 21 crore from the state government. According to a report,The Shillong Times was told by a senior officer of the PWD (Building) that the project is 90 percent complete.

“In March of this year, the project’s physical progress was just 40%. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to accelerate our efforts during the last eight months. This was made possible by the combined efforts of officials led by Additional Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and the contractor who was granted the contract,” the official stated.

According to the authority, all 120 labourers involved in the engineering college’s construction were locals. “Even specialised work like as tiling, ceilings, and aluminium fittings is done by local labourers,” he explained.

The teachers would be hired by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission once the infrastructure is completed, according to Additional Chief Secretary for Education, DP Wahlang.

The much-anticipated state engineering college will finally take shape with the completion of the project.
