A wife in Mizoram has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing her husband.

On Thursday, a district court in Mizoram convicted 39-year-old Mary Zothansangi to life imprisonment for killing her husband.

What happened?

Mary Zothansangi, a resident of Kulikawn in Aizawl, was apprehended after she killed her husband Laltanpuia in their bedroom. The incident occurred on the night of December 9 last year. Mary’s husband Laltanpuia was a doctor by profession.

What did the court say?

HTC Lalrinchhana, the additional district and session judge of Aizawl judicial district, sentenced Mary Zothansangi under two charges to undergo 5 months imprisonment to be followed by lifetime imprisonment for killing her husband with a knife on December 9 last year.

The convict, under the MLP Act, was also sentenced to undergo five months of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 4,000 for consuming liquor without a license at the time of occurrence of the crime.
