Southern Railway has decided to allow only double vaccinated people to travel by Chennai local trains from 10 January 10 to 31 January.
Considering the recent rise in Covid-19 and Omicron cases Southern Railway has taken this decision. Now, passengers without the double vaccination certificate will not be able to purchase tickets.
Southern Railway said there won’t be any exceptions
The Railway has made it clear that no exceptions will be made and the rule will also apply to season ticket holders too. Also during this period the unreserved ticketing system on mobile will not be available.
Tamil Nadu has also been recording a rise in cases. Recently, it reported 8,981 new Covid-19 cases. Chennai, Coimbatore, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur accounted for a majority of the new cases with the state capital alone adding 4,531 cases.
Tamil Nadu has reported 121 cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 so far including 117 recoveries.
Meanwhile, daily cases of Covid-19 rushed to 21% in 24 hours as India recorded more than 1.4 lakh fresh infections yesterday.
